Th Igbo Traditional Belief Against Whistling At Night

Let me quickly coin a proverb here. Lol. No matter how sweet a song is to you, do not whistle at night. Lol.

In fact…

In fact, Igbo elders will tell you ‘do not whistle any song in the night.’ You ask why?

I will tell you: because it is believed that whistling in the night can attract evil spirits. Another account states that it can also attract snakes.

If you put on gour headphone, blast your favourite music and begin whistling its tunes, it’s dollars to doughnuts that an Igbo elder nearby will quickly ask you to stop whistling, as it can ‘attract evil spirits’.

This reminds me of the Russian belief that a candle should not be on by day.
