The UN child agency Unicef has reported that there has been a huge spike in the amount of children used in suicide bombings by Boko Haram in all the countries where it operates – which includes Nigeria.
In what it describes as an 11-fold increase in the use of children for suicide bombings, the report says that one in five suicide bombings are now done by children, and girls who are often drugged are mostly used.
According to the report, while the boys recruited by Boko Haram are forced to attack their own families to prove their loyalty, the girls are exposed to sexual violence and forced marriage.
It says that some communities in the affected areas are now distrustful of their kids as a result of this. See more of the report here.
Sad reality!
This is the result of poverty and illiteracy.
