Mikel Obi, N60m Per Week And Nigerian Football Academies

John Mikel Obi, who has just retired from the Super Eagles, will earn €1.5m (N607m) each season at his new club Trabzonspor, according to Sports Extra. Each week his new club will pay him over €150,000 or N60,576,120.00 per week.

This comes at a time when civil servants in our country are struggling to start earning N30,000 each month.

I think it is time for government, NGOs and the business sector to invest more in football academies.

We should raise the standard of our local league to brush up our players for these big foreign deals. Football is really big business these days, and when crude oil is failing us, we should look for other alternatives.
