Yoruba king causes pandemonium by wearing suit on the throne

African monarchies are not like modern European monarchies in one respect: An unspoken rule for African monarchs is that they must always be dressed in their traditional robe and crown day in day out, and especially for public functions.

They are not like Britain’s Queen Elizabeth who is free to wear ordinary modern skirt suit and then wear her crown perhaps just once in  a year, or like Prince Charles who is expected to wear the suit most of the time – rather than ermine robe and crown- when he is king.

Having spent many years abroad, the current king of Iwo grew p in such culture where the monarch can even wear modern suits. But since he has returned to Nigeria and assumed the throne as Oluwo of Iwo, Osun State, King Rasheed Adewale Akanbi has been wearing suit on the throne and only reserves his crown and royal beads for ceremonial occasions. That has not

This has not gone down well with some of his people who are even calling for the removal of the monarch. But seriously, things gat to change na. Look at Prince Charles them. You don’t see Prince Charles going about with a throne except on special occasions.

The king jhas been called all sought of name like Igwe Tupac , but Sir, if that is your style, no mind them. Even Emperor of Japan dey wear suit. Even Zulu King for South Africa sef.
