Southern Unity: Yoruba King Ooni Of Ife Initiates Connection With Igbos Outside Ife

The Ooni of Ife,Oba Enitan Ogunwusi recently attended a New Yam Festival in Imo State, Igbo Land, Nigeria. The Ooni is one of the 2 highest traditional rulers of the Yoruba ethnic group, which like the Igbos is based mostly in Southern Nigeria.

What is more, Igbos are the aborigines of Ile Ife. They were displaced from Ife after the Yoruba leader Oduduwa fought with them in the 10th century AD.

But since then, the Oonis have treated the remaining Igbo indigenes in Ife called the Oluyare with respect. The Oonis have been fathers of all and have successfulyassimilted these Oluyare Igbos into the Yoruba ethnic group, giving them a sense of belonging and community.
