In the post linked to Obi Cubana is promising to sponsor any phone made by an African youth. He is promising to help market it. Our tech savvy youth over to you o. Read more in the link.
Promoting Your Phone Brand While Outsourcing/Overseeing Product Manufacturing
Update: I did a little research on this and discovered some things:
There are basically 2 parts to conventional phone manufacturing for many global companies. Manufacturing in China or importing to and assembling in India.
I should add importing and assembling in Nnewi or Aba, in Anambra and Abia States, Igboland, Nigeria because those guys are capable if given the opportunity.
Many phone companies actually just build their brand awareness while outsourcing manufacturing. Factories or assembly plants can be found in Taiwan-China, India.
You need to be hands on to ensure that you are on the same page with your outsourcing service providers.
You need to have a lot of capital to invest. I also learn that some of the top phone assembly/manufacturing outsourcing service providers include Jabil, Flextronics, Wistron, Celestica, Foxconn.
For instance Foxconn is said to manufacture most of Apple’s iPhone products and own mega factories that employ hundreds of thousands of workers in China, including in the so-called Foxconn City.
But I guess what Obi Cubana wants are youths that can build entirely from scratch, like that Igbo youth from Aba that built a working electricity transformer from disposable rudimentary materials.
Either way, if you build a phone, contact Obi Cubana because he can help you market and scale it.
My guess is he could even take your phone to the above-mentioned outsourcing services and pay the outsourcing fees for you. But as my maths teacher used to to say, you have to show ‘working’.
Genius engineers over to you guys.
Wow! Paul Kagame tried that in Rwanda and Today, Rwanda have manufactured their own Smartphone. Kudos to him
You are right
Obi Cubana can actually spark a new movement toward tech innovation.
This is really good. You are doing well Sir.
Wow! This is amazing.
Indeed
@shecksman it is initiatives like this from leaders like Paul Kagame and Obi Cubana that can spark industrialization in Africa.
Africa needs more people ready to spark innovation. It also needs a lot of marketing to counter the view that ‘locally’ manufactured goods are inferior.
There’s also need for regulation and self-regulation to ensure quality control. Stability is also important. Wish African leaders can ensure this on an increasing scale.
