The Oba of Benin has suspended the traditional Chief Priest of Benin for allegedly proclaiming himself the head of the Royal Family, and making moves that showed him as being a parallel power to the Oba.
The Chief Priest is said to have refused to perform certain rites which he was entitled to perform for the royal family,challenged the authority of other chiefs, and declared himself the Head of the Benin Royal Family, moves which didnt go down well with the Oba.
