Igbo and Nigerian writer Lesley Nneka Arimah has won the 2019 edition of the Caine Prize for African Writing. She won the prize for her short story Skinned.
Skinned, a satirical story, focuses on the challenges faced by women in African societies still dominated by ancient customs.
Skinned follows the fortunes of Ejem, who comes from a culture where girls are uncovered at a certain age to go around without clothes until they are claimed by a husband.
I hope she joins Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to keep entertaining the world with African stories.
