Despite claims by some members of his party that current Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige agreed not to contest the forthcoming Anambra Governorship elections, it seems he may just be preparing to do so, going by what may be pressure being put on him by his political supporters.
According to Thebreakingtimes.com, a political associate of the heavyweight Anambra politician had this to say on a prospective Ngige candidature:
“Those claiming Onwa (Ngige) pledged not to contest the governorship election should provide proof. He worked hard for the party and, as a leader, deserves to be accorded the right of first refusal. After all, his governorship was aborted in 2006 by the Appeal Court.
Recall that Ngige has earlier occupied Anambra State Government House, when he served as Governor after the 2003 Governorship elections. He ran into troubled waters when he was reportedly slapped and kidnapped by then godfather of Anambra politics, Chris Uba.
However, after he called a television station from where he was being kept, he was released and went on to serve as governor until Peter Obi defeated him in the Election Petitions Tribunal. Since then, he has served as a senator and a minister.
Only time will tell if he will return to Anambra Government House, because APGA, the party of the current governor is very strong in the state.
Chris Ngige wants to come back as governor, all these presidential whatever is nothing but negotiation
I wish him all the best
