In 2013, then President Goodluck Jonathan announced that he would give Nollywood a special grant of N3 Billion. Since then, I have not seen any improvement in quality in Nollywood.
Instead, we hear tales of terminal illnesses. Muna Obiekwe is dead. Leo Mezie’s 2 kidneys have collapsed. He has also lost use of his right leg. His leg would still be working if Nollywood had come to his aid with enough money. Instead, in one month, his colleagues have raised only N1.2 million.
I want to ask; can Nollywood not take the N10 million needed for Leo Mezie from that N3 Billion given by President Jonathan? If they can’t, let them tell us why, and also tell us where the money is.
