“As I am talking to you, about eight local government areas in the state had already been taken over by the Fulani herdsmen.” The council areas are; Buruku, Tarka, Guma, Gwer West, Makurdi, Katsina Ala, Kwande and Agatu.
Those were the words of Governor Ortom of Benue State when he hosted members of the House of representatives.
The Governor said that they don’t have money to pay civil servants and that the civil servants who would easily have gone into farming cannot, due to the herdsmen.
The Governor said that Benue State would not give out its lands for the creation of grazing reserves for the herdsmen, asking the Federal Government to instead make commercial cattle ranching available for the herdsmen.
