As a result of communal tensions the traditional ruler of Idjere Kingdom in, Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State, HRM Erhiekevwe I, has given all Fulani herdsmen in his domain 9 days to vacate his kingdom. Th Ovie said;
“Farming is my people’s mainstay. The Hausas/Fulani people rearing cattle here have created too many problems, including killing of innocent people. They also defile our women and destroy their crops while grazing. They must leave in nine days or face the wrath of my people who I will unleash on them.”
Ever since herdsmen attacked the towns of Agatu and Uzouwani, and killed scores of indigenes, there has been rising opposition to their presence many communities in Nigeria.
The Governor of Oyo State, Governor Ajimobi has also said that his state would not give any lands to Fulani herdsmen as proposed in the grazing reserve bill currently in the National Assembly.
People believe that if the grazing reserve law is passed, their ancestral lands would be taken from them and handed over to the Fulani herdsmen.
