Breaking: Senate Suspends Grazing Reserves Bills

Zikist Movement, Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayo Fayose, Fani Kayode , Vanguard and other entities too numerous to mention will be happy to learn that the 3 Grazing Reserve bills in the Senate have been suspended by the Senate.

Deputy Senate Prrsident Ike Ekweremmadu and Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume moved for the suspension after ‘it was realized that the issue was not on the exclusive list of Nigeria’s Constitution, but rather on the concurrent list’, which means the Senate cannot just wake up one morning and make a law establishing grazing reserves.

Thanks to people like Ayo Fayose that really fought this.

Grazing reserves was a very unfair proposition for this country in the first place. Because it was all about taking people’s ancestral ethnic lands and giving them to a proffession dominated by one ethnic group. Most unfair, even to the Fulani who dominate the cattle rearing business.

Now, we call on the Federal Government to empower the herdsmen to buy land for ranches from willing sellers, as that’s the best way to go. The Prince And Princess Charles Offokaja Foundation has also worked tirelessly for the introduction of commercial ranching instead of government sponsored grazing reserves, and we encourage them to continuue to do so.

Meanwhile those that actively opposed grazing reserve should not go to sleep with both eyes closed. They should remember that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. Congrats to them.
