Biafra News: IPOB Alleges DSS Plot To Kill Members

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of planning to kill Biafra supporters who turn out for the remembrance of Biafrans who were killed during the Nigeria-Biafra war on May 30.

In a statement, the Nnamdi Kanu led group said: “The information reaching us through our intelligence unit revealed that the Federal Government has perfected arrangements to use the army and other security agents of the Federal Government to execute the heinous plan of killing pro-Biafra agitators.

“We want to use this medium to let the world know that IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are peaceful, intelligent, educated, well-informed and determined to pursue the restoration of Biafra through non-violent means and stipulated international law and nobody can drag us to become violent.”

The group, in the statement which was signed its spokesperson, Mr. Emma Powerful, said that it has been observing the remembrance of the Biafran heroes and heroines who died during the civil war and wondered why this year’s commemoration would be different.
Background
It will be recalled that IPOB’s leader Nnamdi Kanu was arrested early this year, and all efforts of IPOB and concerned citizens to secure his release have so far failed.
Before then, Nnamdi had dominated Biafra News with his international campaign to secure an independent state of Biafra. His tactical error was visiting Nigeria, where he was obviously wanted for being a threat to its corporate existence. The government, obviously acting on some internal intelligence traced him and arrested him in a hotel in Lagos, even though he was said to be travelling under an alias.
Buhari Unwilling To Release Him
Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari has publicly spoken against the release of Mr Kanu, who has been campaigning for an independent Biafra.
In an interview, President Buhari made it clear that one of the reasons he doesn’t want to see Nnamdi Kanu out on bail is the fact that he has dual citizenship.
The arrest of Nnamdi Kanu who also carries a British passport led to protests all over the former Biafran territories of the South East and South South, and led to several deaths during clashes between the protesters and security forces.
Since then Biafra news has been on the front burner, even though the reach of Nnamdi Kanu’s own media organ, radio Biafra has been cut short by the Nigerian Government.
