According to Nigeria’s Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, “If a whistle-blower provides information leading to the recovery of 10 billion Naira, he or she will receive 5% of the first 1 billion Naira, 4% of the next 4 billion Naira and 2.5% of the remaining 5 billion Naira.”
He continues, “What we have done by making this information public is to reassure potential whistle-blowers that the plan to reward is real. We are not just saying we will pay all whistle-blowers, but we are letting them know in advance what they are entitled to, once the information they provide leads to the recovery of looted funds.”
Given the very high level of corruption in Nigeria, some courageous entrepreneurs are poised to strike it big very soon. I say courageous because there is a saying in Nigeria that, ‘If you fight corruption, corruption will fight you back’. But seriously, if you have the mind, given that the money being recovered belongs to the people anyway, you could make some cool cash.
But I hope Government is 100% sincere. There are fears that some people may have their identities leaked by unscrupulous govt officials. Let’s hope it aint true.
Good luck to the whistle blowers
May God help Nigeria
