US ponders whether to charge media activist Julian Assange to court

The Trump Administration is debating whether to charge Wikileaks publisher Julian Assange, says a US media report.

The media organisation, which publishes confidential documents, has been in the cross-hairs of the US for years. Trouble started for Assange after his organization published emails showing that the US had been spying on foreign leaders.

Many opponents of Donald Trump don’t want him to ease up on Assange because they believe his organization’s media exposés may have helped Trump win the last US presidential elections.

Asange has been holed up in the Equardorian embassy in London for years, fearing that he would be arrested the moment he steps out of it by police.

Trump has indicated previously a softer line towards Assange, but with pressures from people seeking to punish Assange the situation is a bit murky. Analysts say it would take a lot of political will for Trump to release Assange against the will of those who don’t want him to.
