Before the fight, Javier Fortuna had announced that when he stepped into the ring with Ryan Garcia, he’d show the world that Garcia was overrated. But the opposite was what happened in the eventual fight.
Garcia came in swinging from the opening moments as if repeating to himself the phrase: ‘attack is the best form of defence’. This continued till a sixth-round knockout at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Garcia used long arm advantage to maximum advantage in the fight, keeping Fortuna at bay. The first knockdown of the fight came when Garcia delivered a biting left hook that had devastating impact on Fortuna. This was in the fourth round.
Then in the next round, a left hook from Garcia sent Fortuna down to the canvas for the second time in the contest.
Then, just moments into the sixth round Garcia attacked with a three-pinch combo. Fortuna fell for the third time. Unlike in the two previous falls, this time, he didn’t get up. As a result, at the 0:27 mark of the round, Garcia was acclaimed victorious.
Garcia was just so determined to prove Fortuna wrong.
