Aguiyi Ironi was the first military Head of State of Nigeria, and became president in 1966. He was a man who always wanted to be in the army, but his his elder sister and guardian would not hear of it. Not until she was persuaded to allow him follow his passions.
Those passions led him to become Nigeria’s most senior military officer, with a record of competence directing peace keeping operations outside the country.
He died in service to his country in 1966.
