According to Mrs Oby Ezekwesili, a lot of times when security guards greet people in banks and other corporate institutions, they are simply saying to the stranger, ‘Give me money, please‘.
She says its because of the bad state of Nigeria’s economy. She is right to a large extent.
Apart from the fact that a lot of Nigerians like awoof, there are many who are simply hungry, hustling for the next meal or something to take home to madam for soup.
When a security guard has to focus a lot on being nice to strangers instead of vetting the environment for possible bad actors, it holds great risks.
There is an urgent need to fix Nigeria’s economy, so that security guards would be able to focus more on discovering bad eggs than on getting tips.
She is very right.
In fact it is not only the security guards in bank even the front desk staff do that.
