In the age of social media when everyone, including presidents and judges have joined celebrities and everyone else in making their thoughs heared, one voice that has been so silent is the voice of Justice Binta Nyako. She is the judge that granted Nnamdi Kanu bail, and she asked him not to be present in a crowd of more than 10 people (he has broken that rule, saying it was like saying he shouldn’t breathe).
Nnamdi Kanu has also granted interviews to to many journalists, against bail conditions. And through all this, there has been not one word from Justice Binta Nyako. Not a single word on social media. No one knows what she is thinking about this famous suspect being tried in her court. When granting him bail Justice Nyako warned him that she will bring him back in if he broke the rules.
Now that he has broken the rules so many times, will she put him back in jail or will she leave him free on humanitarian grounds? That is the unknown question. But one thing is clear, Justice Nyako’s decision to free Kanu reduced the heat in the polity. Indeed, this her case requires a lot off wisdom.
