‘Kill both kidnapers and their hostages’, Philippines President orders Navy

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced he has ordered his country’s soldiers to bomb extremists who try to flee with their captives in a bid to fight kidnappings at sea, not minding the presence of their hostages. When asked about the loss of hostage lives if such steps are implemented, he described such losses as “collateral damage.”

His safety tip to potential victims is this: “Don’t allow yourselves to be kidnapped.” Duterte promised to kill drug dealers and users if elected president, and since he was sworn 6000 suspected drug dealers or users have been killed without trial. He used the same methods to make his hometown of Davao one of the safest in the world when he was its mayor.
