US presidents are supposed to be cool, calm and collected. Not President Donald Trump.
Trump comes out everyday prepared to jump into the gutter to fight with anyone who criticizes him or his administration if need be.
That unorthodoxy is one of the things that surprisingly won him the 2016 election, making him the first businessman to become US President.
Many thought that haven won, he would temper his combative nature and become more of the dignified and cool kind of presidents America is used to electing.
But The Donald has poured cold water on such expectations. He took to Twitter to reveal why. He tweeted:
I know it is not at all “Presidential” to hit back at the Corrupt Media, or people who work for the Corrupt Media, when they make false statements about me or the Trump Administration. Problem is, if you don’t hit back, people believe the Fake News is true. So we’ll hit back!
After reading this, I began to wonder if Donald Trump’s isn’t just taking the world for a ride when he acts like he doesn’t like reading history and biographies.
Why do I say so? Years ago, I read almost the same thing as Trumps tweet quote above in Lee Kwan Yew’s biography From Third World To First.
In that book, Lee Kwan Yew was recounting some of his experiences as Prime Minister of Singapore- which ended in the 1990s.
You see, as a result of Lee’s strongman tendencies the Western media would publish articles attacking him. And Lee would respond by banning the sale of their publications in Singapore.
Over time, Mr Lee acquired a reputation of being iron-handed on the media.
Addressing the issue in his book, Mr Lee stated that in his opinion the Western media had made many allegations about him that he felt were untrue.
He stated that while the normal thing expected of a statesman would be to keep quiet about such allegations, if he kept quiet the public would assume that the allegations were true. Hence his decision to hit back unrelentingly with media bans.
And some said Trump doesn’t read voraciously!
It’s either Trump secretly read tomes of history books, or he is so smart he doesn’t need to.
Hmmn
