Igbo Owned Cattle Ranches Spring Up In Nsukka: Nice Model

Reports reaching Zikist Movement reveal that there are several mini cattle ranches in the Nsukka aea. These cattle ranches are owned by Igbo entrepreneurs and dot the road between Orba and Obollo Afor.

According to a source , the cattle being bred at these mini ranches are mainly of the N’dama breed called efi Igbo (Igbo cattle). The Efi Igbo is widely used during burial ceremonies in Nsukka area. It is different from the Zebu vareity, which is reared by Fulanis as it is resistant to Trypanosomiasis which is prevalent in the rain forest zones which Igbo Land.

Igbo entrepreneurs are making inroads into cattle ranching, showing that it is a model that can work in Nigeria. The Federal Government should forget all this talk about grazing reserves. They should abolish the blood thirsty open grazing and encourage the Fulani herdsmen to establish commercial ranches.

This will boost agriculture and stop the bloodshed that has trailed open cattle grazing. We hope to get you photos of these ranches very soon.
