Why did some parents prefer their children to study in public school

Because public school is almost free

Federal Government Colleges used to be very prestigious back in the days. So, some parents preferred that their kids attend those schools. Nowadays, the Federal Colleges or unity schools are facing stiff competition from private schools like Day Waterman and mission schools, who were their historic rivals.

Parents prefer their children to go public schools simply because they believe public schools have qualified, well trained and scrutinized teachers that will deliver quality education to their children.
