FRSC Working With Military Police To Arrest Military Traffic Defaulters

One of the complaints traffic management agencies like LASTMA, police traffic wardens and FRSC make is that they find it difficult arresting military defaulters of road traffic offences. This is because sometimes the military defaulters use their military status and arms to intimidate the traffic management officials.

As a result, sometimes you find military vehicles brazenly driving against traffic, or driving motorcycles in prohibited areas, even in the presence of traffic management officials.

But maybe change is on the way. While speaking at a press conference recently, the Chairman of the Ministerial Task Team on Traffic Management in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Comrade Ikharo Attah stated that the FRSC has began cooperating with Nigeria’s military police to get military officials who default in traffic arrested.

He said:

“Last Sunday when we had a problem at Kugbo, we had a very rough encounter with some uniform personnel.

We were there when the Corps Marshall of the FRSC arrived at the scene to monitor his men and a General in the Nigerian Army brought out a gun to threaten a road safety official that he would shoot him, and the Corps Marshall had to advise that the road safety official looked at safety first.”

“But we are pushing hard. The beauty of it is that we are getting the military police, Col. Madaki and his men who can punish their own and we know that is going to help us greatly.”

Chances are very high that should this succeed in Abuja, it can be replicated in other parts of the country.
