A Nigerian man, Igwe Francis, has been allegedly beaten to death in India by a landlord who said he was being owed R30000 rent by the deceased. A fellow Nigerian who pleaded for anonymity gave the following account to Blackberrybabes.com:
“I received a call from him that his previous landlord was harassing him. He called me again saying he was being attacked and needed my help. A few minutes later, when I arrived, I found him lying unconscious on the road.”
According to him, Francis was dragged inside a garage and beaten up by three people.
“He managed to escape but collapsed on the road,” he said.
But come o. The other day, it was a pregnant woman in Asaba who was attacked suddenly by her former landlord who suddenly rushed at her on the road and began to beat her up. The lady sadly lost the pregnancy and the former landlord was not even remorseful when the press contacted him.
Is it acceptable for former landlords to beat former tenants to the point of death if they are being owed rent?
