China’s Xi Refuses To Rule Out Use Of Force Versus Taiwan

General Secretary of China’s Communist Party, President Xi Jinping has refused to rule out force in the People’s Republic of China’s quest to reunify with Taiwan, which styles itself the Republic of China.

China sees Taiwan as a breakaway province which must one day reunify with the rest of the country. But Taiwan sees itself as distinct.

Xi, who has been named the ‘Core’ of the ruling party was speaking in a very important party meeting that holds just twice every ten years. He said:

“complete reunification of our country must and will be realised”.

“We will continue to strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort, but we will never promise to renounce the use of force,”

This comes as Vladimir Putin’s Russia is in what it has called a special military operation aimed at absorbing at least part of Ukraine in a recreation of the Kievian Rus order where Prince Vladimir of Kiev ruled Ukraine and Russia as one large monarchy. But Western nations that encouraged Ukraine to renounce nuclear weapons after the breakup of the Soviet empire refuse to allow any such readjustment of the status quo ante citing international law which sees mordern states as sovereign.
