Following his address to the United Nations General Assembly UNGA, President Buhari has taken to Twitter to thank the world body for appointing a Nigerian, His Excellency Tijjani Muhammad-Bande as the President of its 74th session.

President Buhari wrote:

Firstly, I wish to thank the General Assembly for the honour bestowed on the Government and people of Nigeria by electing our national, His Excellency, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande @BandeTijjani to the Presidency of the 74th Session of this august body.

Nigeria, which is the giant of Africa, has had it difficult of recent.

But the appointment represents a positive turn the Nigerian narrative, which has of recent been filled with tales of violence and economic difficulties.
