As Tonto Dike, Funke Akindele Are Nominated For Deputy Governorship Candidacies

Last week we heard that controversial Nollywood actress King Tonto Dike was nominated as Deputy Governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Rivers State.

Today, we are reading that talented actress and producer Funke Akindele is one of the shortlisted nominees for Deputy Governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Lagos State.

It seems its becoming a trend for Nollywood actresses to be nominated to that position.

What leadership skill does Tonto Dike bring to the table? Well she has done a lot of social work through her Tonto Dike Foundation. That may be an indication that she has her heart in the right place when it comes to service to the less privileged, or maybe it was all smart political positioning.

But one thing that cannot be denied is that Tonto has gained some experience of how to run welfare programs designed to touch the less privileged through her participation in her NGO’s programs.

Her party faces an uphill, but-not-impossible task winning the Governorship election in Rivers State.

As for Funke Akindele, her fame has increased in leaps and bounds since her produced the very popular Jennifer series.

She has gone on to produce the popular American series My Siblings And I that shows on DSTV. The PDP is doing all they can to break the jinx of never having ruled Aguda House, Alausa. Unlike Tonto Dike, Funke Akindele has 4 other rivals for the same position.

Both actresses have faced crisis in their marriage. They know what it is to face rejection. But will the people of their states embrace and elect them? Only time can tell.

Simply Tacha?

Something tells me that after this, Tacha of BBNaija may run for a post in the next election. And Tacha is one eloquent lady that when she voices out on issues, the powers that be seem to listen and do what she asks. How, do you mean, you ask? I remember when she accused President Buhari of not addressing the nation over the lockdown. The next day, it was announced that Buhari would address the nation, and he did. Although it is not known if President Buhari had earlier planned to address the nation on that date before Tacha’s video was published, at the time, it seemed to some like a direct responce to Tacha.

I also remember when she called out Governor Wike for not addressing the issue of soot polluting the air in Port Harcourt. The next day, Governor Wike swung into action. Hmm. Was that a coincidence, or did Wike actually listen to Tacha’s plea? We cannot tell. But Tacha sure knows how to play opinion politics well.
