19 year old activist forms political party to fight for independence of Hong Kong

A 19-year-old Hong Kong self-determination activist Joshua Wong has formed a political party Demosisto, to campaign for greater self-determination for the people of Hong Kong. Even though Hong Kong’s population is mainly Chinese, some activists there are campaigning for the territory to break away from the rest of China. He dissolved his student activist group Scholarism to form the party.

At just 19, Joshua Wong is too young to run for elections himself, but his party will field older people as candidates in Hong Kongs next election. Hong Kong, a part of China, was once leased to Britain for 99 years, and became a British colony. That lease expired in 1997, and Britain returned the territory to China.
