More About the Ikwere Igbos Of Igwe Ocha (Port Harcourt)

Ikwerre is an Igbo nation based in the Niger Delta. The Ikwerres share a common Eze Chima/Anioma origin with the Ogba, Ekpeye and other Igbo nations in the Niger Delta . They also have ancestral links with Owerri and Ngwa areas of the South East axis of Igbo Land.

The Ikwere are the majority population in Rivers state. They speak the Ikwerre dialect.

Presently, about 92 oil wells, producing an estimated 100,000 barrels of crude daily, are located in Ikwerre Land.

Prominent Ikweres include Chief Obi Wali , Governors Chibuike Amaechi and Nyesom Wike, Tonto Dikeh, Actress, Musician Celestine Omehia, former Governor of Rivers State Monalisa Chinda , Actress Duncan Mighty, Musician Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Current Governor of Rivers State Hon. O.K Chinda, Politician Bobby Ogoloma.

The present city of Port Harcourt was originally founded on Ikwerre land called Igwe Ocha.
