It is July 1, and for a former baseball player called Bobby Bonilla will get paid $1.19 million by his former club, the Mets, despite the fact that he has retired and last played for them in 1999.
What’s more? The club celebrates this payment to their former player which is in fact bigger than what they will pay any of their current stars for the whole year.
The celebration is named after the player. It’s called the Bobby Bonilla Day.
Furthermore, the club is committed to keeping up with this tradition and commitment every July 1, till 2035, 13 years from now. By that time, 59 year-old Bobby Bonilla will be 72 years old.
