Igbo Proverb (Ilu) About The Chicken (Okuko) And The Goat (Ewu)

We saw this Igbo chicken and goat proverb and knew we had to share it: Thanks to Gabriel Oguda in Twitter.

This proverb reminds us of the disadvantages of laughing at the misfortunes of others.

For instance, people shouldn’t laugh when someone who isn’t evil passes away – when every human being on earth will leave this world one day.

By the way: do you know that the Yoruba word for ewu (goat) is ewure? We believe this is because of the Igbo aborigines of Ile Ife.
