This raises questions as to why the Army had not made this announcement earlier. News of the purported operation has been floating around for a while.

This has led to speculations that the announcement of the operation might have been a weather balloon floated to gauge the reaction of the public; or an indirect means to get more Nigerians to go register for their National Identity Numbers.
