Coal rings a bell as Nigeria continues in darkness

Since yesterday (October 9, 2016), there has been a blackout in many areas of Lagos, and I imagine, many areas of Nigeria. As you can guess, I am angry. I am angry because the lack of light is unnecessary. They keep telling us that the darkness is caused by lack of gas to power our power stations, and I keep asking the question: what happened to coal?

I have been shouting on this forum that we should begin to use the coal in Enugu for electricity. Many enlightened minds have talked about it. The government pays lip service to it, and does nothing.

I call on you to ask this government through your social media account to invest in coal power plants. The reason I say so is that if gas is scarce as they have said, coal is everywhere in 12 states of this country. That coal that is currently lying unused, if you don’t get the government to do something about it, it will keep lying there unused and our generation will come and go, and not experience enjoyment of constant light to watch films, enjoy fans, airconditioners, make more money, etc.

At the end of the day, we are left in darkness while they the ruling politicians have light, unless you make this an issue. Raise it as a topic on Facebook, on Twitter. Ask why the government doesn’t want to exploit coal for our electricity. The light we need on this issue may begin with you.

Think of your business and how high energy costs affect it. For example, if you are a blogger, you”ll know that with your phone or laptop battety low, there is a limit to what you can post. You will know that thete is also a limit to the number of people that can see your posts and the adverts in it because of this light issue.

So, we need to embrace coal, totally. We need to make our voice heard on this issue. Only then will they take us seriously.

It shall be well with Nigeria.
