Prime Minister Medvedev said;
“On an almost daily basis, we are being described as the worst threat – be it to Nato as a whole, or to Europe, America or other countries. “Sometimes I wonder if this is 2016 or 1962”.
The issue here is that Russia is not a typical European country. It may have Caucasians in it as the majority, but it has a different cultural DNA from the of the rest of Europe.
Did Russia ever experience the Frankish conquest of Charlemagne that affected such countries as France, Germany and Italy?
Russia has a different culture forged not by invasions from other European cultures, but principally by Vladimir the Great and other Slav experiences.
The West will always see Russia as a little different from them, and the Russians will always see the West as being too ‘flexible’ in their civilization, whereas Russian civilization is more on the ‘stiff’ side.
The cultural conflict between Russia and the West is not something that will end tomorrow. Russia is a Euro-Asian country, and not a European country. There is a difference.
